What is the mission of AccessAbility?

The mission of AccessAbility is to provide training, work and recreational opportunities for people who have disabilities or are otherwise economically disadvantaged.

How does someone get referred to AccessAbility?

Eligibility requirements differ by program. For more information, please contact our Intake Coordinator at (612) 331-5958.

What type of services do you provide for individuals?

AccessAbility provides rehabilitation services to individuals with barriers to employment including vocational assessment and training, job development and placement, employment and support services, and community inclusion programs.

What type of business services do you perform for companies?

We provide contract manufacturing, packaging, assembly, mail preparation, fulfillment, document conversion, and document destruction.

What types of barriers to employment do you work with?

We work to remove employment barriers dealing with language and cultural disabilities, illiteracy, low education, prejudice, chemical dependency, large families, criminal histories, poor or no work histories, and/or a lack of marketable job skills.

What types of disabilities do the people you serve have?

The people served by AccessAbility have a wide range of disabilities including developmental disabilities, such as mental retardation, sensory impairments and cerebral palsy; mental impairments such as serious and persistent mental illness or traumatic brain injury; and/or physical disabilities associated with spinal cord brain injury.

How many people do you serve?

We serve approximately 500 individuals in our programs.

How do I get to AccessAbility?

AccessAbility is located at 360 Hoover Street NE in Minneapolis (between Interstate 35W and Highway 280 on East Hennepin Avenue).

From the North: take 35W South to the Industrial Boulevard Exit. Turn left onto Industrial Boulevard, drive 2 blocks to Broadway. Turn right turn onto Broadway. Drive 2 blocks to Hoover Street. Turn left onto Hoover Street. We are at the bottom of the hill on the right hand side.

From the South: take 35W North to 94 East to Highway 280 North to the Larpenteur/East Hennepin Avenue Exit. Turn left onto East Hennepin Avenue. Drive approximately 1 mile to Hoover Street. Turn right. We are about 2 blocks on the left hand side.

From the East: take 94 West to Highway 280 North to the Larpenteur/East Hennepin Avenue Exit. Turn left onto East Hennepin Avenue. Drive approximately 1 mile to Hoover Street. Turn right. We are about 2 blocks on the left hand side.

From the East: take Highway 36 West to 35W South to the Industrial Boulevard Exit. Turn left onto Industrial Boulevard, drive 2 blocks to Broadway. Turn right onto Broadway. Drive 2 blocks to Hoover Street. Turn left. We are at the bottom of the hill on the right hand side.

Who pays for someone to attend your programs?

Payment of services differs for each program. For more information, please contact our Intake Coordinator at (612) 331-5958.

How old do you have to be to benefit from AccessAbility services?

Individuals served have to be at least eighteen years of age.

What is a developmental disability?

As written in Public Law 98-527, a developmental disability is defined as a severe and long-lasting disability of a person, which is the result of a mental or physical impairment or both; occurs before age 22; is likely to continue indefinitely; reflects the person's needs for specialized services and/or treatment; and results in substantial functional limitations in three or more of the following areas: self-care, self-direction, economic self-sufficiency, independent living, learning, receptive and expressive language, or mobility.
