Horticulture
In 2001, a horticulture program component was added to the Day Training and Habilitation (DTH) area. The Horticulture Program helps people with disabilities realize and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of gardening enabling the participants to live a more well-rounded life, maximize their abilities, build their self-esteem, and increase their well-being.
AccessAbility began its horticulture activities with a small seasonal program including the installation of accessible garden beds and above-ground planters. In 2002, with the assistance of grants and in-kind donations, the program was expanded with the installation of a greenhouse and pond. Today, horticulture activities are an important aspect of the recreational/leisure portion of the DTH programs. It also provides vocational training opportunities for potential work in horticulture positions in the community.
