Work Experience/Work Adjustment

Work Experience

The Work Experience program is recommended for people who have no work history and need to begin to develop one. It involves a 3-week assessment of the participant's vocational abilities, skills, and interests while they earn wages working in AccessAbility's on-site production facility. Short-term goals are established at the beginning of this three week program. The participant's progress is monitored and documented by their work experience case manager. This provides the opportunity to identify concerns and solutions immediately. A final written report is prepared based on the case manager's observations and documentation. An interdisciplinary team, including the participant, reviews the outcome of the work experience and makes recommendations regarding the next steps. If the participant is recommended for referral to active job development, they will be admitted into AccessAbility's Extended Employment/Center-Based Employment program to work in-house to gain more work history until community employment is available. The eventual goal is employment in the community.

Work Adjustment Training

Work Adjustment Training is recommended for people that have a past history of unsuccessful employment and need intensive transitional support with specific identified issues.

Phase I: Initial Assessment

This beginning phase involves a 4-week assessment of skills and work behaviors. Approaches to addressing identified barriers to employment are outlined in a written report at the completion of this assessment. Recommendations are addressed in Phase II.

Phase II: Work Adjustment Training

This phase focuses on strengthening identified deficiencies in work skills and behaviors. The goal is to help each participant prepare for community employment. Areas of intense support and training may include, but are not limited to, interpersonal skills, attendance, work performance, and work behaviors. Verbal updates are shared with the participant and referral source regularly. Upon completion of the service, a written report with recommendations is discussed. If the participant is recommended for referral to active job development, they will be admitted into AccessAbility's Extended Employment program and will work in-house until community employment is available.
