We had a wonderful Grand Opening on Thursday, May 17, at 4:30 p.m., at our Hoover Street location! Thanks to everyone who came out to help us celebrate the completion of our AbleTo Campaign building renovation and expansion project! It was well attended and everyone seemed to have a great time. Attendees included staff, board of directors, supporters, local leaders and others from the community. The event included a ribbon cutting ceremony, building tours, presentation of programs and services, food and entertainment. Lake Elmo Inn Catering provided appetizers and beverages and Ben Abrahamson Trio provided instrumental background music.
Thanks to staff and volunteers from the City of Minneapolis Environmental Services, in partnership with Landbridge Ecological, for planting trees and flowers on our grounds and providing landscape consulting services as part of the AbleTo Campaign building project.
The AbleTo Campaign was launched in 2016 with the goal of raising $2 million for facility improvement and organizational capacity building, to meet the changing needs of individuals served and the community. Groundbreaking of the project was held in July of 2017.
Facility improvements address the need for larger spaces for programming, including improved wheelchair access, expanded and reconfigured entry space, additional restrooms, an expanded nursing station, and a better life skills training area.
The Groves Foundation, long-time champion of AccessAbility’s work, provided a corner stone gift of $280,000 for the AbleTo Campaign Project. Mortenson Construction and their transformative Community Builders program (a wide network of construction vendors committed to philanthropic and material support of projects that advance the public good), along with other generous community supporters have made the Grand Opening possible.
The AbleTo Campaign is still in the public stage and additional financial support is being sought to cover the full cost of the project. To schedule a tour of to see our newly renovated and expanded facility, call 612-331-5958.
