Esther has brought smiles to and warmed the hearts of those around her for the past 5 years. She is extremely dedicated to her work at AccessAbility and is involved in multiple program activities. Prior to AccessAbility, Esther spent 32 years as a Dietary Aid at Abbott Northwestern Hospital located in Minneapolis. When Esther's position fell under new management, she decided it was time to retire and find new hobbies/programs. Esther's social worker took her interests into consideration and referred her to AccessAbility.
Esther comes to AAI three days a week and enjoys the people she’s around. Esther says, “My favorite part of AccessAbility is the people. They are the nicest people and are continually supporting me.” She takes pride in her work and is currently working in AAI's packaging and assembly operation. As a member of the Everyday Life Experiences program, Esther is able to participate in community inclusion activities. She and her fellow program participants go out on community outings, such as candy stores, Goodwill, the library, and numerous restaurants.
“Strike!” “Spare!” “Split!” are all very common terms to Esther since her favorite sport is
Bowling. Esther participates in our Evening Stars Special Olympics bowling league every Monday in the winter and competes in the Special Olympics State Tournament. Esther is also involved with another bowling league every Saturday for fun. Bowling is her passion!
Now that the Special Olympics are over, Esther's main focus is on AccessAbility's 23rd annual Holiday Boutique on December 12th. Esther has been very busy making crafts to sell at this year’s Holiday Boutique. It is one of her favorite events because she is able to express her creative side and make people smile!
